Totty & Py’s inspiration

Blanca Romero, founder and designer of Totty and Py, grew up in Madrid. She was raised with the essence of a Mediterranean family with the idea that they will always stay connected no matter the circumstances. “La familia unida jamás será vencida”. She was the youngest of the family until her little niece Totty, as her father used to call her, came along. This is whom she named the brand after. Seeing her niece Victoria become a toddler, made her reminisce about her own childhood, which helped her find inspiration for the brand’s ethos. She remembers playing outside with Py, a sweet and soft cloth dog that came with her everywhere until she was five. All of those of years her and her brother learnt through games and creative activities with their parents. This enabled them to spend quality time with one another and is the key inspiration behind the Py line. Totty and Py lines are defined by two key aspects of her life. The Totty line is about elegance and tradition whilst the Py line is about creativity, diversity and alternative ways of learning.

Totty & Py’s Products & Founder’s Professional Background

Our products are designed in London and made in Spain mainly by manufacturers that support good working conditions. Manufacturing in Totty and Py’s founder native country of Spain is a conscious choice to support artisanal and local manufacturing as well as ensuring high quality products coming from a country well known for its textile industry. Durable products with timeless trends are the quintessential Totty and Py product. Choosing materials that are soft to the touch and will have the minimum impact on the planet is at the core of the design process.  Hence most of our products are made with organic cotton, printed in ecological ink and made to last.

We produce small quantities per design, which make our products rare and almost one of a kind. All of the prints and product designs are conceived by Totty and Py’s founder, Blanca Romero.

The woman behind Totty & Py

Blanca discovered her passion for bags, textile prints and children while studying Fashion Design at Istituto Europeo di Design. She also developed a huge interest for children’s play and education. After finishing her postgraduate Diploma in graphic design, she started working with children at risk of social exclusion, running extra-curricular artistic activities, in a non-profit organisation in Madrid. Throughout those years she trained as a designer in renowned organisations such as Del Pozo foundation or Agatha Ruiz de la Prada in Madrid. Later, in London, where she currently lives, Blanca enrolled into Central Saint Martins and London College of Fashion school of design to expand her knowledge in bag design, children’s products and graphic design. She has been a freelance designer and built her commercial acumen while working for well established companies such as Bonpoint.

Blanca noticed a gap in practical products with an educational aspect to it too and decided to further develop a previous project from her studies at Istituto Europeo di Design. All products look after basic children needs such as eating, playing and sleeping.

Blanca currently combines her practice as a designer with working professionally with Early Years children, youth (0-25 years), their families and carers.
